THE IDEA

Icebreaker Inc. started with a simple idea my dad used in cold weather to keep his feet warm. No matter how many socks he wore, they never kept the cold out—until one morning when he brought a blanket to the stand, wrapped his feet, boots and all, and managed to stay in the stand until lunchtime in subfreezing weather. That simple idea led to a homemade, insulated giant boot that he would slip on, which was just as effective as the blanket. Eventually, this evolved into the pattern for the original Boot Blanket, created in the early ’80s, and it remains the same great cold-weather product found in thousands of hunting closets today.

Though the camouflage patterns have evolved from the old World War II designs, the insulation, quality, and reliability of the original Boot Blanket have not changed—and never will.

I’ll always remember the first rule my dad taught me as a teenager hitting the stand for the first time: “If you aren’t in that stand, even in the coldest weather that big bucks love, you WILL NOT get that once-in-a-lifetime chance to harvest that trophy buck.” Icebreaker BootBlanket and HanBlanket will help you stay in the stand and greatly increase your odds. And for goodness’ sake, “Sit Still!”

THE LEGACY

From that original idea, Icebreaker Inc. grew into a small family business. My dad, a dentist by profession, thought he was the boss, but my stepmother, Trudi Kimsey, was the real boss and the salesperson of this two-person operation. They were backed by my Mam Ma, who helped pack and ship thousands of BootBlankets and HanBlankets each year. For over four decades, our two products have been essential for battling cold and even extreme temperatures while stand hunting.

In 2019, we unexpectedly lost Trudi, our “boss,” and a couple short years later, we lost my dad. Now my wife Lori (the new boss) and I are working together as dad and Trudi did to continue to carry on Icebreaker Inc.’s legacy.  We remain dedicated to filling orders for hunters who know and love our products, passing down the tradition to their kids and even grandkids.

For four decades, Icebreaker Inc. has proudly served hunters with cold-weather products that are second to none, often imitated but never duplicated. We are so thankful for our large family of BootBlanket and HanBlanket owners, and look forward to continuing the legacy my dad and stepmom, Cheston and Trudi Kimsey, started forty years ago with one goal: “STOP COLD FEET AND HANDS.”
